Always loved the simplicity of the Datsun L-Series engines. Didn’t know much about them except that they didn’t break and ran hard in the few race cars that I was familiar with. In a former life I helped at Adam Carolla tote his cars around and was always amazed as to how these engines ran in the 610 and Roadster he owned (or may still own, no idea).
Even further back in my high school days the local hot rodder that helped the kids out was a dry lake bed racer. He had a Datsun powered streamliner with a turbo charged alcohol iron bottom powering the car. He also had a big block Chevy with twin turbos, but I think he really liked the Datsun better. The engine never seemed to break, but WTF did I know I was a Chevy guy at the time…
This firing order should work with the following (possibly more)
- L16 – 1.6L
- L18 – 1.8L
- L20 – 2.0L
- L20B – 2.0L
Also remember that the position of the spark plug wires does not matter AS LONG AS THE ORDER IS MAINTAINED! If you need to rotate the cap for any reason don’t worry about pulling the wires and rotating them around. This is fine as long as the firing order for the engine is still maintained. Always be sure and you check your engines timing.
1-3-4-2 Is the firing order for the L16, L18 and L20 engines, the distributor may be rotated differently depending on year and model, but the firing order is the same.
