I was getting tired of finding crappy and tiny looking firing order diagrams so came up with this one. It’s LARGE and easy to read even on a phones browser (EZ Read from now on!). Nothing magical just easy to read and convenient for me since I know my own sites address. So if you have pulled the plug wires off of you Mustang’s or Bronco’s distributor AND you are using the newer firing order this is what you are looking for. Also if you are not sure what a 302 is in liters it is 5.0L or just 5L.

NOTE : This is different then early 260’s, 289’s and 302’s.

Again, the older 260-302’s use a different firing order but many aftermarket camshafts for older Fords often are the newer 302 HO/351W order. Just double check with your cam grinder or pull the valve covers find top dead center and start watching valves, you should be able to figure it out!

Also remember that the position of the spark plug wires does not matter AS LONG AS THE ORDER IS MAINTAINED! If you need to rotate the cap for any reason don’t worry about pulling the wires and rotating them around. Again this is OK as long as the firing order for the engine is maintained and you check your engines timing.

The distributor on the SBF’s are in the front, block perspective is looking at the front. It rotates counter clockwise. If you can’t figure this it I should issue this disclaimer –

Use this information at your own risk and seek the help of a knowledgeable mechanic before acting on this information.

Is it wrong to be this sarcastic? In any case happy motoring…

So if you want to cut and paste the small block ford 302 HO/351W order it is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
