Sway Bar Rate Calculator
Trying to get a rough idea of the spring rate of your sway bar? This simple calculator will help do that for SOLID and HOLLOW sway bars. It will calculate the spring rate for solid and hallow sway bars. The original formula is from Fred Puhn's book on handling called "How to make your car handle". The formula is a general attempt to compute the spring rate of the sway bar. This can be used for comparison of different diameter bars. See Fred's book for more information on how the front and rear sway bar rates affect the handling.
Note : While the picture shows a racing bar I think the formula under estimates stiffness since typically the arms are not of the same material and typically stiffer. From some inspection of Schroeder sway bar charts this seems to be the case. So if you have a bar that the is spline type hit the manufacturers charts, they will have bar rates with various lengths of arms. This will get you close but likely a lower rating due to rigidity of arms vs. bar as calculated.
